Cake Decoration and Elements
1. Can I order an unfinished or undecorated cake?
As long as the cake has our name on it then we need to assure the quality level of the finished design. Therefore all cakes that leave the store must be dressed and finished.
2. Can I have my florist put flowers on my celebratory or wedding cake?
We view all our cakes as works of art. We would never presume to attend your party or reception and attempt to finish the decorative elements or arrangements done by the florist or planner. We ask the same respect and consideration for our art. In addition, anyone that touches the cake after delivery creates a sanitation and aesthetic liability. As long as we are assuming that liability we must insist on supervising the handling and sanitation of the cake.
3. Can you pipe roses on top of my cake?
Although we try to accommodate as many requests as possible, we are a custom cake house and prefer to align our decorative style with more personalized tailored elements.
4. Can you place plastic or non-edible elements on top of my cake?
Many cake and related suppliers make plastic and resin pieces designed to work with and be used on cakes. We limit all decorative applications that dress our cakes to be made from edible dough, paste or chocolate. You may request certain elements such as sculptures or likeness to be done in Sculpey or other poly clay. This allows the customer to keep the artwork for a longer period of time. Poly clay is never used without a specific request from the customer. ALL elements that grace the top and sides of our cakes need to be made by hand, excluding certain wedding toppers and monogram letters.
5. Can fresh flowers be used on your cakes?
Our preference is sugar flowers, especially on wedding cake. They have a more sophisticated and polished look. This also allows us to control the scale, proportion, color and overall size of the flower. If for some reason you have an absolute wish to use fresh flowers then we will purchase and place the flowers on the cake during the execution of the design.
6. How do you deliver your cakes?
All our cakes are delivered pre- assembled. We assemble all our cakes at our studio and transport them fully assembled to the party or reception site. Too many things can go wrong and/or details missed when assembly is done on site.
7. Can I bring you a picture of a cake I like and have your replicate it?
We respect the design time and work that goes into creating the cakes seen in magazines and on the web sites of other chefs and bakers. Therefore we limit our design work to that done by our own staff and associates. We will gladly use your picture as inspiration for the basic design but we do not make copies of other artists work.
8. Why are your cakes more expensive than my local bakery?
Because we do everything by hand the labor on our product is much higher than the average bakery. Imagine the difference in labor between spending 20 minutes making lemon curd on the stove with fresh juice and butter versus popping the top off a bucket and dipping in. In addition, the organic fruits and ingredients, butter and European chocolate that make up the components of our cakes are costly.
9. Can you ship my cake out of State?
We have shipped cakes but our preference is to stay local within the state of California. If you really want us to design and create your wedding cake we would be happy to fly to the destination and make the cake on site. We have flown as far as Tokyo Japan with wedding cake.
10. How do I order a party cake?
Some dates book up months in advance. It is always advisable to book as far in advance as possible. In the event we have availability for your weekend the order must be placed by 5pm on Wednesday for weekend orders.
Please call us with the following information:
- Number of servings
- Date and time of the event
- Theme or idea for the cake.
All orders must include a 25% deposit. All orders must be accompanied by a credit card/cash deposit to be booked. Deposits are non-refundable.
11. Can you change the fillings on my cake?
Substitutions can be made to our flavor page. Any substitution made should not be a simplification of the product. Our cakes are designed to be 4 layers of cake and three different fillings in each tier. We can’t make the cake with the same filling in every layer. All substitutions need to be taste tested and approved before sending out the cake.
12. Can you do sheet cakes with my wedding cake?
Sheet cakes are not a service we provide with weddings. If your guest list is larger than 350 we can separate the cake into additional rounds for convenience of cutting. The additional rounds will be filled iced and covered/ finished in matching design to the wedding cake and charged per slice at a reduced rate.
13 .Can I do a tasting for my party cake?
Because we bake and fill individual 5” cakes for tasting we must limit them to a minimum of $500.00 and a guest count of 75 or more. You are welcome to buy and taste something from our array of fresh items available during store hours in our bakery case.
14.Do you have any locations other than Southern California?
We are a corporation located in Southern California. We have no other branches. Because of the recent proliferation of companies using the same name we have changed our name to avoid the confusion that naturally arises from such situations.
15. How much is that cake on your web site.?
Everything seen on our web site has been custom designed for a particular bride or celebrant. Therefore, it would not be appropriate to tell you how much they paid for the cake. The price of the cake we designed for someone else will have little bearing on your event. We prefer to tailor our cake to the individual aesthetic of each and every customer, not replicate the design work from a previous event. We would be happy to quote you a price for your special event or wedding.
We can use an image from our web site or portfolio for inspiration but the labor elements will change for your finished design.
16. Can I order a cake for Monday?
I’m sorry but we are closed on Monday. We could arrange for you to pick it up on Saturday afternoon. It will still be fresh and nice on Monday or we can arrange to have it delivered for you.
